Kollwentz - Römerhof Wine Estate

All grapes from our own vineyards are picked by hand. This implies rigorous selection directly on the vine - only fully ripe, unscathed fruit ends up in the cellar. By the way: we have no irrigation systems in our vineyards. It is true that in extremely dry years it may happen that we forgo one or another harvest from young vineyards. On the other hand, the vines will root substantially more deeply, thus releasing extra aromas and flavors as well as power into the grapes.

Frost in the vineyards:

We managed to escape Tuesday's frost with just a black eye and bruises,
but last night's frost brought devastating injury to the vines.

Our Zweigelt is almost totally frozen, and it will be a few hours still
before we can accurately evaluate the extent of the damage.
