Kollwentz - Römerhof Wine Estate

All grapes from our own vineyards are picked by hand. This implies rigorous selection directly on the vine - only fully ripe, unscathed fruit ends up in the cellar. By the way: we have no irrigation systems in our vineyards. It is true that in extremely dry years it may happen that we forgo one or another harvest from young vineyards. On the other hand, the vines will root substantially more deeply, thus releasing extra aromas and flavors as well as power into the grapes.

After Monday's rainfall and the cooling that came with it, today we've harvested the Chardonnay vineyards in the Leithagebirge. Already we can hear the first 'blub-blub' of fermentation. Yesterday we picked the first Blaufränkisch out of Setz—now we're already working on the Ried Point, and then after that in the Haussatz.

Ripeness is very good, the grapes are crunchy and the flavour is great.
